Customize roles and permission sets

Build custom roles and edit default roles to match how your team works

Written by Christy Umberger

You can create a custom role, duplicate a role to reuse its permissions, edit the permissions on a default role, and reset a default role to its original permissions.

Once you customize your roles, you can Assign and remove roles.

Custom roles are an enterprise-only feature. Reach out to our support team to learn more.

Creating a custom role

Create a custom role from scratch when you need a specific or limited set of permissions and don't want to start from an existing role.

  1. Go to Operations > Configuration center > Users and access control > Roles.

  2. Click Create role.

  3. Enter a role name and click Save role.

  4. The new role will be selected and listed under Custom roles.

  5. Add permissions to the new role by selecting the permission checkboxes. Your changes save instantly.

Important to know: Many permissions depend on other permissions to work correctly. When you enable a permission, click Show details to review its dependencies and enable those too.

Duplicating a role

You can duplicate a custom role or the default roles of manager and technician and then adjust the permissions.

  1. From the Roles page, find the role you want to copy.

  2. Click the three-dot icon next to the role and select Duplicate role.

  3. Edit the new role's name and click Save role.

  4. Add or remove permissions by selecting the permission checkboxes. Your changes save instantly.

Editing a role

You can customize the permissions on the manager and technician roles. The view-only role can only be changed with help from our support team.

  1. From the Roles page, select the role you want to change.

  2. Add or remove permissions by selecting the permission checkboxes. Your changes save instantly.

If a user is currently assigned to that role, the change takes effect the next time they log in.

Resetting a role

You can reset a default role (manager and technician) you have edited back to its original permissions.

Custom roles and roles created from a duplicate cannot be reset.

  1. From the Roles page, select the default role that you edited.

  2. Click the three-dot icon next to the role and select Reset role.

  3. Confirm the reset.

Caution: resetting a role cannot be undone. Limble does not remember your previous changes.
